First off, you’re here because you’re ready to do more with your book than just sell copies. You’ve poured your heart into writing your story, sharing your expertise, or crafting your narrative—and now it’s time to turn that effort into something even bigger. Whether you’re an author looking to create new income streams or someone curious about what’s possible, you’re in the right place. Your book isn’t just a product—it’s a tool, a brand, and a powerful gateway to generating income. Whether you’ve written a chapter in a book, a memoir, a how-to guide, or a novel, there are countless ways to leverage your book to create multiple streams of revenue.
Monetizing your book doesn’t mean just relying on sales alone. In fact, the real magic happens when you use your book as a platform to offer additional value to your audience. In this blog, we’ll explore five proven ways to turn your story into money, helping you unlock your book’s full earning potential. Ready? Let’s dive in! 1. Leverage Speaking Engagements
Your book establishes you as an expert in your field, making it the perfect credential to land speaking gigs. Whether you’re delivering keynote speeches, hosting workshops, or participating in virtual summits, speaking engagements can bring in significant income while expanding your reach. How to get started:
Include “author” on your professional profiles and bios to boost credibility. I also include this in my email signature line. You’ll be amazed at how many people actually look at the email signature line. That’s free marketing space to talk about your book and include a link for them to purchase.
Pitch yourself to event organizers in your niche, highlighting how your book ties into their audience’s interests. Do a Google search and find out where events are being held virtually or in person. If you can attend in person, that’s ideal. Make a connection to the event’s organizer and let them know how you can add value to their audience. Make it all about them, not about you.
Use chapters or anecdotes from your book to craft powerful presentations that resonate with your listeners. If you were to comb through an entire chapter, I guarantee you will find at least (at least) one powerful message. That one message can be turned into a powerful presentation that will impact people’s lives. After you’re done reading this blog and posting a short review, pull out your book and read a chapter. Find the golden nuggets. Then bullet point your powerful presentation. You got this.
2. Create Companion Products
Books often leave readers hungry for more. Companion products not only enhance their experience but also generate additional income for you. Consider creating:
Workbooks that dive deeper into concepts from your book. Creating a companion workbook creates a greater connection between you and your readers. Why? Because they are now intimately involved with you by taking notes from your book. Studies suggest that people retain significantly more information when they handwrite it compared to typing or reading alone. I don’t know about you, but when I handwrite (with actual pen and paper) as opposed to typing notes on the computer, I retain a LOT more information. So, imagine your reader taking notes in your workbook and retaining more of what you’re teaching them.
Journals for readers to track progress or reflect on lessons learned. I can’t say everyone loves journaling, but journaling is a billion dollar industry. According to Future Market Insights, the global digital journal apps market size reached $3.4 Billion in 2018, and is expected to reach $15.2 Billion by 2033. That’s HUGE! Might as well take advantage of it.
Merchandise like mugs, T-shirts, or posters tied to your book’s themes or quotes. From our bestselling book, Action Takers Who Get Shit Done, we created coffee mugs and people love them. These products provide a tangible connection to your book and help you build a loyal fan base.
3. Offer Coaching or Consulting
If your book solves a problem, teaches a skill, or shares expertise, it’s the perfect gateway to offering coaching or consulting services. Readers who connect with your book will trust you to guide them further. How to start:
Use your book as a lead magnet to attract clients. Yes, give it away. Why? Well, if you’ve been selling any books, you’ve probably come to the conclusion that your book isn’t turning you into a millionaire anytime soon. It’s believed that the average author sells 200-300 books over the lifetime of the book. With a potential profit of $10 per book, that’s a whopping $2,000-$3,000. BUTTTT, if you use your book as a lead magnet and one person reading your free book signs up for your coaching or consulting services, you can make anywhere from $1,000 to $50,000 for giving away one book. Not bad, right?
Create coaching packages tied to the themes of your book. You can create mini group coaching packages where you focus on one topic in your book and then create a program around it. Make it 4 weeks, 6 weeks, 8 weeks. Think about how many weeks it would take to teach that one concept and go for it. You can make your book a prerequisite for the coaching program.
4. Create a Micro Course
One of the most exciting ways to monetize your book is by creating a micro course. A micro course is a short, focused online course that breaks down key concepts from your book into actionable lessons. This is my favorite because I can “set it and forget it.” You can use your book as a lead magnet to get people into your email list and then invite them to your micro course. Since they downloaded the book, you know they’re interested in that topic. You can then create a micro course for each chapter.
In today’s fast-paced world, micro courses are awesome for those who want to learn something, but don’t want to take months to learn it. Your micro course will speak to those who are short on time, but want to learn. Why micro courses work:
They’re affordable and accessible, appealing to a wider audience. Micro courses range in price from $7 up to $499. You decide on your price.
They allow you to deliver content in a new format, engaging learners who prefer videos or guided instruction. We recommend three short 5-minute videos in your micro course in order to keep their attention.
They’re scalable, providing passive income while helping readers take immediate action on your book’s teachings. Win-win situations are always fun.

Create irresistible offers by bundling your book with other services or products. Bundling increases the perceived value of your offerings and attracts customers who want a more immersive experience. For example:
Pair your book with access to exclusive webinars or live Q&A sessions. These would be sessions that no one else has access to except those who buy your book.
Include your book as part of a membership program where readers receive ongoing support or content.
Offer a premium package with a signed copy of your book and access to a private one-on-one coaching session only for those who purchase a copy of your book directly from you (they have to buy it from you – not Amazon – so you can sign it).
Your Story is the Key to Financial Freedom
Your book isn’t just a product—it’s a gateway to endless opportunities. By leveraging these five strategies, you can build income streams that go far beyond book sales, all while creating a lasting impact on your readers.
